Master YAGI Meitetsu Demonstrates at Shuri-Jo Castle

13 10 2011

Master Yagi Meitetsu of the Meibukan Hombu Dojo made history today when he demonstrated at Shuri-Jo Castle. The demonstration itself was an important since the masters were only of the top 4 associations in Okinawa. What made this an extraordinary event for the Yagi family was that for the first time in Okinawa’s history, this privilege has been shared by 2 generations. Just a few decades ago, the late Yagi Meitoku Dai Sensei performed among the masters of his time.

Despite the rain and a very slippery floor, Master Yagi performed his kata with the budo tamashii (spirit) of Dai Sensei in mind. Although, with a deep dedication to his father, Meitetsu Sensei was the only demonstrator of Goju-Ryu Karate. Representing Okinawa Goju-Ryu, he performed Seienchin. During this year’s Uchinanchu Festival, the Karate community have all come together to demonstrate over the next few days. On October 14th and 15th, other masters and karate-ka from all over the world will demonstrate their skills including other members of the Yagi family. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos.

  • These seminars are separate from the Endure Tour karate seminars, therefore tour passes do not apply.
  • Each seminar is 2 hours.
  • These seminars are open to all (not just karate people) as long as they are at least 13 years old.
  • People attending should wear loose fitting comfortable cloths (sweats and T shirt or shorts) and bring a towel.

The cost is $50.00 per seminar (Hambukai members are free). Money will be payable at the door for each Seitai seminar.
